Yarran were James Halliday’s Dark Horse Winery of the Year 2021 – and as they say, never underestimate a dark horse!

“This modern Australian winery produces wines that are brilliant bang for buck…One of the wines securing the Dark Horse accolade is a Riverina Shiraz selling for $15. If that is your price limit, Yarran gives you the best-quality wines, both white and red.”

The winemaker is Sam Brewer and he’s from a grape growing family of over 30 years. When Sam graduated from Uni with a degree in wine science they crushed a tonne of Shiraz grapes and fermented it in a milk vat! Having made wine for some of the big guns in Aussie, like De Bortoli, Sam decided to take the plunge in 2009 and focus on the family business.

Using fruit from three different regions – Bendigo and Heathcote in Victoria and Hilltops in New South Wales. In the words of Sam the man this well priced Shiraz is a “Rich, full bodied wine. Aged with a combination of French and American oak, this wine displays ripe plum and spicy characters with soft tannins.”
