The Piqueras’ are a fourth generation Spanish winemaking family nestled away in Almansa, south east Spain, crafting seriously good wine for over 110 years.
Their family owned vineyards sit a whopping 2,500 feet above sea level and with high sunshine hours and low rainfall the vines, planted on stony, lime rich soils, work their arses off to produce grapes full of intense flavours. There’s even an organic sheep farm on the property where they let their fluffy little friends roam free to help keep the plant life low and the natural fertiliser high!
This is high altitude, organic Spanish Syrah…as nature intended! From vineyards 900m above sea level, organically grown and influenced by the winds of the Atlantic ocean. The wine ferments naturally without the additional of sulfites and ages for a year in terracotta amphora.
Packaged in an ancient squat style bottle, each individually numbered and bearing the signature of the winemaker. With only 3000 bottles produced it’s also pretty limited!
Scoring 91/100 at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London with the judges describing it as “Spicy and peppery…Subtle and elegant.”
