Chilean winemaker Don Melchor de Concha y Toro was terrified that strangers would get their dirty mits on some of the most treasured wines in his cellar. So he spread the rumour that the devil lived there – Casillero del Diablo (Cellar of the Devil!).
Mind you, if the devil did live there he’d be waving his pitchfork around in joy – these wines never fail to over deliver for the money. In fact in Metro Magazine wine scribbler (and Master of Wine) Paul Tudor said – “Shiraz is a relatively recent addition to Chile’s red-wine arsenal. But judging by the quality and price of this example, the world needs to sit up and take notice.”
Medium to full bodied, rich dark berry red fruits with a touch of spice. Perfect with roasted red meats or a spicy stew.
