Coopers Creek The Little Rascal Arneis. They call it “the little rascal” because that’s what Arneis (pronounced ‘ar-nayz‘) is known in its home of northern Italy. That’s because, well, it’s a tricky little bugger of a grape to grow!
Coopers Creek were one of the first to give it a go here in NZ with pretty awesome results. Produced from fruit grown in Gisborne, the Coopers crew call this one “A full bodied, dry white wine rich in stone fruit character. Perfect with seafood and salads“.
This is the latest 2017 vintage and it took out 4 Stars in Cuisine magazine’s 2023 “NZ & International Whites” tasting. The judges said “Pale in the glass – belying its 6 years in bottle – this arneis has aromas of apple and pear with a nutty note that adds complexity. The palate is juicy with great weight and a baked-apple flavour alongside savoury characteristics and an intriguing aniseed twist.”
If you’re into a full bodied style of Pinot Gris or Chardonnay you’ll love it. Go on, be a cheeky little rascal. Branch out and try something!
