It’s the home to some of Italy’s most flavoursome and exciting reds, it’s picture perfect postcard stuff and it looks a lot like the heel of a boot when you look at it on a map – we’re talking about southern Italy, Puglia to be precise.
It’s where Quota 29 Primitivo comes from, made by the crew at the Menhir Salento winery. Ten hectares of vineyard nestled along the breathtaking Adriatic coastline and producing wines like this from 80 year old vines! Bliss!
Primitivo’s the grape and it’s one of the varieties that’s famous in this part of the wine world. Never heard of Primitivo before? It’s known as Zinfandel (Zin for short) by the Yanks, who’ve made this a signature style in places like California.
Never heard of Zinfandel before? If you like medium to full bodied, rich and ripe style reds (like a Cabernet or Shiraz) it’d be worth your while ripping the cork out of this one and trying it with rustic Italian fare. Or if you want to keep it Kiwi try alongside roast lamb with wild thyme and roast potatoes! Buon appetito!
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
