Down the road from the Spy Valley winery in Marlborough’s Waihopai valley are two rather large golf balls that are in fact the Waihopai Station – home of Government’s Communications Security Bureau. AKA the Government’s spy agency!
What goes on in those golf balls is a mystery. Who do they spy on? Are they spying on us right now? Do they like the odd tipple of Spy Valley?
We’ve got to admit, having Government spies as your next door neighbours is pretty cool – but not as cool as Spy Valley’s Ice Sauvignon Blanc. Literally. That’s because the Spy (Valley) crew pick a selection of their Marlborough Sauvy grapes in the middle of a winter frost! Chilly!
They press the grapes and let it sit in French oak for 9 months. The result is a rich, sweet little dessert wine perfect for your favourite sweet puddings and blue cheeses.
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
