What was once a stony sheep paddock back in the 80s (bought by a stash of cash from the sale of herd cows) has become one of Martinborough’s premier wine labels, up there with NZ’s best and has a glowing international reputation to boot.

If it’s Ata Rangi on the label it’s usually pretty classy stuff, so it was no surprise to slurp back on a bottle of their Ata Rangi Lismore Pinot Gris 2018 and all nod in agreement – this is classy NZ Pinot Gris at its best (although it did remind us a bit of the style of Gris you’re likely to find in Alsace, France).

A portion of the wine has been barrel fermented which gives it a rich, powerful texture, it’s picked late in the season so it’s off-dry in style with a touch of natural sweetness. Imagine biting into a peach or pear, simply delicious!

Woo your dinner guests and serve lightly chiled as an aperitif – but this wine will simply blow you away when paired with Thai and Asian inspired cuisine. Drink it now to 2024.
