Lake Hayes Pinot Gris is named after the namesake lake at the foot of Queenstown’s Wakatipu basin. With stunning views of the mountains it’s no wonder it’s the most photographed lake in New Zealand. You might also catch the odd bloke in lycra scooting around the lake too, it’s part of the 120 kilometres of cycle trails around the Queenstown area.
Just down the road from Lake Hayes you’ll find the Amisfield winery, who are the guys that produced the Lake Hayes range. Think of it as Amisfield’s junior label that packs a heap of punch for the price.
This is a deliciously lush, off-dry style Central Otago Pinot Gris – it’s got the trademark stone fruit flavours like peaches and nectarines with a touch of spice and a dry-ish finish. Clearly worth well more, clearly got the touch of class of a benchmark Central producer like Amisfield!
