When it comes to Pinot most of us think Otago – but don’t forget Martinborough! It was this region that put NZ Pinot Noir on the world wine map back in the 80s – and being the first to plant the grape in the area we can pretty much thank Martinborough Vineyards for that.
The “Home Block” label is their flagship red and a world famous name in Pinot Noir. It was no fluke that they ended up planting Pinot in Martinborough with the vineyard founders conducting an officlal DSIR survey to find the closest climatic match in New Zealand to Burgundy in France, the home of Pinot. The result? “The optimal location was within a small rain shadow centered on the township of Martinborough.”
Serious style Pinot with a seriously good reputation. Dark, savoury red cherry and plum flavours with a touch of spice. A class act like this has the legs to be cellared for up to a decade.
