And now for something completely different. Misty Cove Waihopai.
The idea came about from Misty Cove’s Waihopai Valley Vineyard which was producing a variety of outstanding fruit but in small quantities. Deciding to push the boundaries a little bit they create Waihopai – a unique and interesting blend that changes from vintage to vintage.
They call it “A rockstar blend from the finest that our Waihopai Valley vineyards have to offer.” We reckon if you fancy branching out and trying something totally different this is your guy.
This 2022 vintage is a blend of Pinot Noir (60%) and Chardonnay (40%), both aged in old oak barrels for 7 months.
Scoring 89/100 with Master of Wine Bob Campbell, who called it “A blend of chardonnay and pinot noir with a light and refreshing sparkling wine character. Pear, apple and quince-like flavours with a touch of sweetness balancing gentle, fruity acidity and a hint of yeast marmite”
This is such a good (and different!) food wine – you could try it with anything from spicy Asian cuisine to a more full flavoured chicken, pork or seafood dish.
