The story of Leveret Estate is long winded and, in all honesty, will bore your socks off. Something about a leveret being a baby hare, three hares featuring on the label, their ears connecting to make a triangular symbol, that symbol was used by an old tin merchant, it goes on and on.
What’s more interesting is Leveret Estate is actually owned by the guys that used to own Morton Estate and if you know anything about Hawke’s Bay and wine you’ll know these guys have a stellar reputation and a long history of producing seriously smart wine.
This is the 2024 vintage of their Leveret Estate Viognier and can we just say this now – this must be one of the best Viogniers we’ve had under $20 in a LONG time! This is a big, full bodied 14.9% white that has a real touch of class about it. In all honesty it’s a bit under priced!
Trophy winner for Champion Commercial White Wine at the NZ International Wine Show 2024! The judges said “Honeysuckle and lychee aromatics lead into a satin textured, fresh and balanced palate with juicy ripe apricots, white nectarine, tangerine and mild spices.”
If you’re into this style of white you’re in for a treat. If you’re new to it then you’re probably wondering how on earth you pronounce it – first of all! It’s “vee-on-yay” and it’s a full bodied, rich and spicy style white (think flavours of apricot, honeysuckle, lychee and spice) that makes a perfect partner to spicy cuisine, especially Asian!
