He started off with a blank canvas, he ended up with a near bloody masterpiece.
Matt Thomson is the winemaker, you probably best know him from his days at Saint Clair, and after making wine across every corner of the globe he decided to do his own thing. Taking his years of experience and know-how and making a fresh start with his own gig, using his own cash, making wine on his terms.
Matt only made 1200 bottles of this Chardonnay and he’s damn excited about. This is the first release of Chardonnay from the Reed Family Vineyard at the mouth of the Waihopai Valley in Marlborough – in his words “We have great excitement for this vineyard’s potential.”
Wild fermented in two French oak puncheons it’s what he calls “incredibly textured and savoury…maintaining our minimalist philosophy, this wine is unfined, unfiltered and presented with sincerity.”
Scored a wildly impressive 95/100 (5 Stars) from Bob Campbell MW, who said “Taut, high energy, powerful chardonnay…a backbone of pure acidity that gives the wine a nod in the direction of Chablis”
Another class act under this label, it’s premium Marlborough Chardonnay at its best!
