Sheer determination, occasional heartbreak and a near financial collapse. It’s all in the story of one of the Barossa Valley’s most respected names, St Hallett. The St Hallett Old Block Shiraz is their ultra premium, iconic label that is crafted for the long term cellaring in mind.

The Lindner family arrived into the Barossa from Silesia (a historical part of Central Europe) back in 1838 and made a meagre living from producing fortified wines from a shed in the middle of the Barossa. In 1944 they launched the St Hallett brand.

2013 was a bloody hot, bloody dry Barossa vintage, one of the driest on records they reckon! Using 59% Barossa and 41% Eden Valley fruit from vines no younger than 80 years old, this is a true Barossa blockbuster in every sense of the word!

Scoring a ridiculous 97/100 in James Halliday’s Wine Companion and described as “A picture of good health, balance, flavour and length. It bristles with freshness, with power, with authority…A very long life is in store.”

While you will absolutely fall head over heels if you open it now (and maybe get a decanter at the ready) the guys at St Hallett know all too well patience is the game and reckon this will comfortably cellar for 30+ years from vintage.
