Austerity’s here – but this is no time to be tightening the belts! Every dollar counts so if rich, creamy, luscious premium Californian Chardonnay sounds like a bit of you then it’s time to loosen up the purse strings and make the investment!
From the guys that produce the popular Harken Barrel Fermented Chardonnay, Austerity is their flagship Chardonnay. So if you loved Harken this is well worth the few extra bucks! It’s 100% malolactic (the fancy process that gives the white its creamy, buttery taste) and 50% aged in French and American oak.
Here’s a little insiders tip – the fruit is sourced from a relatively unknown sub region called Arroyo Seco in California’s Monterey. The wines of Arroyo Seco are unsung – but damn delicious! The secret’s in the name – Arroyo Seco literally means “dry riverbed”. The warm midday sun reflects off the river stones, absorbing the heat during the day and ensuring the vines don’t freeze during the night.
Combined with the loose, loamy soil these vines struggle to find any nutrient they can – and that’s a good thing when it comes to making wines full of amazing flavour.
As the guys at Austerity put it – “tropical fruit and pineapple flavors complemented by a velvety texture and rich, buttery finish.”
