A super red from Sicily! Ammasso Rosso Sicilia is a unique blend of Nero d’Avola, Nerello Mascalese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon made by the crew at Barone Montalto and imported into NZ by Master of Wine Steve Bennett.
The Ammasso name is a traditional Sicilian winemaking technique still used today with some of the very best parcels of fruit from the area. The fruit is hand picked and placing bunches in small trays (no more than 5kg) and stored for a month in a temperature-controlled fruttaia (fruit chamber).
Packaged in an impressive looking bottle and closed with a wax seal – this looks and tastes the part. Trust us, bust a bottle of this out at the next dinner party and you’ll wow the guests!
Dark and inky in the glass, it’s a big full bodied and fruit driven, rich style red that is completely and utterly delicious!
Scoring 95/100 with critic Sam Kim who said “Rich and brooding, the concentrated palate offers terrific power and opulence.”
If there’s one thing Italians love more than their wine it’s the food to go with it. They reckon pair this one with red meat, baked pasta, aged cheeses, extra dark chocolate.
