“I drink it when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it – unless I’m thirsty” Lilly Bollinger
Bollinger (aka “Bolly) is one of the world’s most famous Champagne names and known as “the most British of Champagnes” – rather! This is the mega sized 3 Litre bottle (called a Jeroboam), the equivalent of 4 standard sized bottles of Bolly, enough to fill around 32 flutes
Back in the 1850s Bollinger struck up a close relationship with Ludwig Mentzendorff (possibly not the most British sounding surname!) – a prominent wine shipper in London. The relationship flowed nicely (as did the wine) as Bolly forged its roots in the English capital.
In 1956 Bollinger appeared in Ian Fleming’s fourth James Bond novel but it wasn’t until the 1973 flick “Live and Let Die” that Bond and Bolly were seen together on the big screen. In fact, 007’s been seen sipping a flute of Bollinger in every Bond movie since!
Bollinger Special Cuvee Champagne Brut is their complex, toasty signature Champagne blend, of which some of the wines in the blend are aged for up to 15 years in magnums in Bollinger’s cellars.
