What started as a family owned apple orchard in the Hawke’s Bay in the 80s has gone on to become one of NZ’s largest producer of premium organic food. You might know them for their organic apples and delicious organic chickens.
And now you’re going to know them as a seriously, seriously good producer of premium Hawke’s Bay wine. Organic too, of course.
They’re the Bostocks. Johnny Bostock along with his three boys Ben, George and Tom are running the family ‘biz these days. It was Johnny’s late wife Vicki that was the inspiration for igniting his passion for organic food and wine.
This 2019 vintage is the third release of the Bostock Vicki’s Vineyard Syrah and geez if they wanted to produce a wine in Vicki’s honour, they’ve done some job!
Scoring an incredible 95/100 (a hat-trick of 95 point scores now for this label!) by Master of Wine Bob Campbell for The Real Review. How good is 95/100 for a Hawke’s Bay Syrah? Well, it gives you a seat at the big boys table that’s for sure – joining the likes of other wines of 95+ points like Bilancia La Collina, Church Road Grand Reserve, Trinity Hill The Homage, Te Mata Bullnose and Craggy Range Le Sol.
Bob said “Elegant rather than blockbuster syrah with plum, berry, floral, violet, pepper, mixed spice and a hint of fresh herb flavours. A complex wine with an impressively lingering finish. Can be appreciated now but promises to age well ”
