An exclusive import from one of our favourite Spanish producers! This is Castano Dominio Espinal Monastrell and it’s a 100% Monastrell Spanish red from a producer that’s gained a worldwide reputation for delivering seriously good value reds at crazy good prices. They’ve done it again.

Produced by the Castano family in the south-east of Spain in a region called Yecla. With hot summers, long cold winters and long periods of drought – most grapes wouldn’t stand a chance. But in this environment the likes of the Monastrell grape (which Castano is best known for!) brings its A-game!

Don’t worry if you haven’t the foggiest about Spanish wine or what Monastrell is (it’s also called Mourvedre in some parts of the wine world) – just know this is a medium bodied red, soft and rich in style with juicy berry fruit flavours and silky smooth tannins. It’s a style of red that’s impossible not to love.

Scoring 90/100 with Sam Kim who said “Brightly fruited and nicely fragrant, the wine shows sweet cherry, olive, almond and subtle spice aromas. The palate displays juicy fruit intensity, together with supple mouthfeel and fine tannins, finishing rounded and smooth. At its best: now to 2027”

Yet again Castano have delivered a ridiculously well priced, superbly drinkable red – hook in with confidence with cold cut meats, grilled and barbecued red meats like steak, pork and sausages or how about a cheeky cheese platter? Yum.
