Get set to go loco baby! We’re talking Molinico Loco by Castano, one of the best value Spanish producers around — and if you’ve tried other Monastrell labels by Castano you’ll know exactly what we mean!
Molinico Loco means ‘crazy windmill’ – but it’s this deal that’ll actually blow you away.
Don’t worry if you haven’t the foggiest about Spanish wine or what Monastrell is – just know this is a medium bodied red, rich and juicy style, deliciously easy drinking with red berry and spice flavours and silky smooth tannins. If this sounds like a bit of you, you’d be mad to miss it!
Produced by the Castano family in the south-east of Spain in a region called Yecla. The grape is Monastrell (also called Mourvedre in France and Mataro in Aussie) and it’s absolutely at home in this part of Spain. With hot summers, long cold winters and long periods of drought – most grapes wouldn’t stand a chance. But in this environment Monastrell brings its A-game! Think of Monastrell in Yecla like what Sauvignon Blanc is to Marlborough, it’s just what they do best.
Scoring 4 1/2 Stars and 90/100 with The Wine Orbit’s Sam Kim. Said said “It’s sweetly ripe and inviting on the nose with dark plum, raspberry, mixed spice and floral aromas. The palate displays
succulent fruit intensity with plump mouthfeel and silky tannins, making it immediately approachable and appealing. At its best: now to 2025.”
Made from 100% hand picked grapes from 50 year old vines this is 90% Monastrell with a 10% splash of Syrah for colour, fragrance and spice.
