Some Loire Valley know-how with a Spanish twist. Christophe Chapillon is a Frenchman originally from the Loire Valley and now based in Zaragoza, Spain. He’s used his Cotes du Rhone background (and a bit of help from the oldest family estate in Aragon) to create his wine brand – Chapillon.
This is Siendra. Think of it as Christophe’s take on a Spanish Cotes du Rhone style.
It’s powerful 70 year old vine Grenache from the stony soils of Chapillon’s high altitude Calatayud vineyard with additional backbone provided by Cabernet (7%), fragrance and elegance from Syrah (7%) and a dash of juicy, fruity Merlot (6%). Aged for 12 months in oak (a mixed of American and Eastern) 30% of which was expensive new oak.
Scoring 91/100 with wine critic James Suckling who said “A rich, ripe red with a hint of white pepper to the dried strawberry and cranberry flavors. Tight and a little chewy on the palate with a medium to full body and some dried fruit in the finish. 80% garnacha, 7% syrah, 7% cabernet sauvignon and 6% merlot.”
If you’re pairing Siendra with a feed think meat! Roast lamb, lamb chops, spicy pork sausage to name a few!
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
