Chateau Les Millaux is the pride and joy of winemaker Monsieur Frédéric Bellot. Frederic spent 8 years at the First Growth Chateau Haut-Brion, first as a trainee then as an assistant winemaker, returning to the family business in 2014.
You might also know Bellot as the man behind the popular Chateau Ploizeau Bordeaux red. Well, this is Bellot’s top cuvee (also called “Grand Vin de Bordeaux”) and being labelled Bordeaux Superieur it’s a step up in quality and class.
Following strict French wine laws anything labelled “Superieur” has to follow more rigorous grape quality standards than standard Bordeaux “AOC” wines. As the label suggests it’s superior!
A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet and aged 10 months in oak (French, of course!) this is classic Bordeaux blend with ripe, luscious Merlot and dark black fruited Cabernet giving the wine a bit of backbone.
Chateau Ploizeau are a member of the VIF (Vignerons indépendants de France) – a wine group setup to help the little guy! They have six rules that all members must be able to tick off (that many of the big guys simply can’t) including rolling up your sleeves and working in the vineyard yourself, harvesting your own grapes, aging the wine yourself and bottling the wine yourself.
As for this 2021 vintage of Chateau Les Millaux this is what Frederic had to say “A pleasant and gourmet Bordeaux…a slender, very complex wine with a great potential for ageing”
