It's rich and creamy - the best release under this label yet!
Coopers Creek Plainsman Chardonnay
2020, Hawkes Bay New Zealand
From an awesome 2020 vintage in Hawke's Bay - we reckon this is the best release yet under this label!
90/100 & Top Value Award (Bob Campbell MW, The Real Review)
"Rich, mellow and appealingly creamy chardonnay with a smooth, rich texture and peach, toast, cashew nut, ginger and spicy oak flavours. An attractive wine from a successful vintage. Good value at this price ($22)" (Bob Campbell MW)
There ain’t nothin’ Plain about it! Coopers Creek are best known for producing wicked Chardonnay labels like the iconic “Limeworks” and the absolute classic “Swamp Reserve”.
A couple of years back when disaster hit and a spring frost wiped out most of the fruit for their number one selling wine (Limeworks), they had to pull out all the stops and use all their contacts in the Hawke’s Bay to produce a new edition to replace it, the “Plainsman”. Well, Limeworks is back in full swing but the Plainsman was so popular they’ve decided to keep on crafting it.
A medium bodied, barrel fermented Chardonnay with sweet fruit with a rich, creamy finish. This is their latest 2020 and we reckon this is the best we’ve tried under this label.
Scoring 90/100 and a Top Value Award by Bob Campbell MW, who called it “Rich, mellow and appealingly creamy chardonnay with a smooth, rich texture and peach, toast, cashew nut, ginger and spicy oak flavours. An attractive wine from a successful vintage. Good value at this price ($22).”
This is the kind of rich style of white that is perfect with richly flavoured dishes, especially chicken, pork, fish and crayfish.
