From an area in north-east Spain called Campo de Borja – winemaking’s been happening in this neck of the woods since the 12th century when Cistercian Monks first started planting vines.

A few vintages have flown by since those days of borderline drinkable Monk wine! These days you can lay your mits on some wickedly good, approachable Spanish reds at very modest prices.

From the Bodegas Aragonesas crew, this is a blend of Garnacha, Syrah and the lesser known Mazauela grape (known for its red fruit and spice flavours) that’s been aged for 12 months in oak before release and now the added benefit of several years bottle age too. Big, rich and dark in colour with dark sweet fruit and spice – there’s a whole heap goin’ on here and it’s quite simply a class act for the money. The ideal red to wow the dinner party guests, tell them you spent $30 plus on it!
