Every month Bob publishes a list of his Top 10 Red and Top 10 Whites (both NZ and imports) and this super value Spanish Syrah called Don Aurelio La Lealtad Syrah made the cut for the Top 10 Red list for July 2023!

Bob called it “Savoury syrah with roasted chestnut, charcuterie, cassis, Bovril, violet and dried herb flavours. Medium-bodied red that is vinous rather than fruity. Accessible wine that cleverly balances alcohol sweetness against ripe tannins and mellow acidity.”

Made by the Navarro Lopez winery from vineyards in the Valdepeñas region in the southern part of central Spain. Valdepeñas literally means “Valley of the rocks” and along with its stony clay-lime soils, it’s an area with an extreme climate of cold winters and hot, dry summers, perfect for producing fruit that thrives with flavour, intensity and complexity!

A gorgeous, velvety style Syrah with black fruit flavours, cassis, liquorice and spice. This is a red that’ll pair with pretty much any kind of meat and mature cheeses.
