Eight Ranges, three hectares, two good wine lovers and a couple of kids who love nothing more than to put on gumboots and go rabbit hunting through the vineyard.
Brian and Rebecca Gibbs came from a busy life in the tech and medical industries but with a love for good wine (and we imagine a bit of cash) purchased this small Central Otago vineyard in the middle of the Alexandra Basin overlooking the Clutha River.
Purchased in 2016, Brian and Rebecca set up their A-team with legendary Central winemaker Matt Connell and James Dicey in the vineyard.
It hasn’t taken long for them to make their mark as a Central Otago name to keep an eye on. Their flagship Pinot took out Cuisine magazine’s top spot for No.1 NZ Pinot Noir – the Eight Ranges Trail Rider Pinot Noir is their entry level Pinot and man, does this punch above its weight for a little over $25.
And if you’re wondering where the Eight Ranges comes from – they’re the ranges that surround the vineyard. The Remarkables, The Cairnmuir, The Pisa, The Dunstan, The Hawkdun, The Raggedy, The Old Man and The Old Woman.
