Elephant Hill only release their sleek looking Reserve range when the quality hits the mark. When they say that, they mean it. These guys set the bar pretty high when it comes to quality. That might be something to do with their German owners, Roger and Reydan Weiss, that spare no expense in running this state of the art winery located on the stunning Te Awanga coastline, and boasts one of the finest winery restaurants in NZ!

It’s also probably why we this is only the six Elephant Hill Reserve Bordeaux blend red since 2009! This is their 2018 release and it’s a Merlot (86%), Cabernet Sauvignon (9%) and Cabernet Franc (5%) blend from their Stone vineyard in the Gimblett Gravels and Earth vineyard in Bridge Pa Triangle.

Scoring 5 Stars with Michael Cooper who said “The 2018 vintage (5*) was estate-grown and hand-harvested in the Gimblett Gravels and the Bridge Pa Triangle, and matured for a year in French oak casks (35 per cent new). Deep and still fairly youthful in colour, it is fragrant, mouthfilling, fleshy and sweet-fruited, with concentrated, ripe blackcurrant, plum and spice flavours, hints of liquorice, nuts and coffee, and a rich, smooth finish. Weighty, savoury and smooth, it’s delicious now, but should also cellar well.”

Aged for 22 months in French oak this is a true full bodied Bordeaux style red that has the legs to be left in the cellar for another decade or longer.

Such is the demand for this wine Elephant Hill have to dish it out on allocation – limited release, highly sought after, secure your stash of this very special red now!
