There’s two things that Farnese are nuts about. One is producing amazing value for money wine. The other is cycling.

Not only do they sponsor a team in the Giro d’Italia (Italy’s equivalent to the Tour de France) but every year they release a special, limited edition wine dedicated to all things cycling. In previous years they’ve had images of lycra-clad cyclists on the front label but for their 2016 release they’ve ditched men in tight shorts for a much more modern, elegant design and produced it in a funky 750ml bottle that’s slightly shorter and wider than your standard bottle.

A blend of the native grape Sangiovese (pronounced san-joe-vae-sae) and Merlot from the Puglia region (that’s the heel of Italy’s boot if you’re looking on a map!). This is your modern style, medium bodied red full of delicious soft, juicy red berry fruit flavours.

Drink it now and over the next 4-5 years, give it a spin with salami or other cold cuts, chorizo or mild cheeses!

    The Lowdown: 13.5% alc / 750ml / Cork
