When the summer heat cranks up, hit up some shade. In Italy they like to call it ‘Frescura’ which literally means ‘Fresh’ and that pretty much sums up this wine – dry, lively and definitely refreshing!
From Veneto in the north-east of Italy and made by legendary Kiwi winemaker Matt Thomson, also a winemaker at Saint Clair in Marlborough. This Rosé (Rosata in Italian) is produced using Pinot Grigio grapes (Pinot Grigio is the Italian term for Pinot Gris). Contact from the grape’s copper coloured skins has given the wine a distinct, vibrant orange tinge (don’t freak out, it’s meant to look like that!).
Recommended in NZ Herald’s VIVA (January 2016) who called it “A textural Italian rose with restrained apple and berry fruit and hint of savoury and spice.”
Bust it out of the fridge nicely chilled and serve with seafood, salads or light meat dishes.
