The Clayvin Vineyard in Marlborough was established in 1993 and quite frankly can boast producing some of the best Pinot Noir and Syrah in Aotearoa. Giesen’s Single Vineyard Syrah from the Clayvin vineyard sits among NZ’s elite Syrah – typically selling in $60-65 price bracket.
Golds, Golds and more Golds. They don’t really need to enter this prestigious wine into competitions, but they do anyway. And it comes up trumps time and time again! This 2021 release has basically just backed up what we said before, taking out a Trophy & Gold at the Marlborough Wine Show, a Trophy and Gold at the National Wine Awards of Aotearoa plus Double Gold at the NZ International Wine Show AND 95/100 with Master of Wine Bob Campbell. Phew, what a haul!
Bob said “Fragrant, ripe and intense syrah with dense plum, dark berry and pepper/spice flavours. Youthful wine with firm tannins that is impressive now but shows obvious cellaring potential.”
Most recently this one went gangbusters at the prestigious International Wine Challenge in London. It took out a sensational THREE Trophies that included Trophy for Champion NZ Syrah, Trophy for Champion NZ Red Wine and Trophy for Champion International Syrah! Yes, beating some seriously good French Syrah along the way!
Extremely limited stocks. Enjoy and savour it now, but it’ll be good to be kept tucked away in the cellar up until around 2035.
