“Absolutely in a class of its own; the best Italian red of the year. Congratulations!”
When Italy’s numero uno wine critic, Luca Maroni, gives you the big thumbs up and gives you the top dog award for best Italian red of the year. Well, you’ve gotta be something special.
Luca rated it 98 out of 100 points on his “Pleasantness Index” (one of the more unique ways of scoring a wine we’ve seen that’s for sure) and went on to say “A majestic fruity consistency that is stupendously harmonious to the senses, and with an aroma that has no faults or deficiencies. A masterpiece of wine growing and making, that celebrates with its appealing hints of minty blackberry jam, the natural expertise and techniques of this winemaker.”
Produced from 50 year old vines, hand harvested fruit and aged in oak for over a year. It’s a big, full bodied and powerful red, rammed with rich, ripe, spicy dark fruit and fig flavours. Oozing with class, gloriously drinkable, this will not disappoint!
Bit of a novice when it comes to Italian wine labels? That’s cool, we’ll break it down for you…
Giordano – the name of the winery
Primitivo – the grape (also called Zinfandel in some quarters)
di Manduria – the district of Puglia (Italy) the wine comes from
DOC – Denominazione di Origine Controllata is the second level of a four tier Italian wine classification system (DOCG, DOC, IGP/IGT and finally Vino da Tavola, table wine or as we call it…plonk for plonkers!)
