This iconic New Zealand label is being discontinued and we’ve scored a seriously, seriously good deal on some of the final stocks of this 100% Wairau Valley SauvyB. Crafted to sell in the $20-25 price bracket this has the look, feel and taste of a premium Sauvy obviously worth more – it’s ticking some serious boxes at the price of just under $15.
Goldwater was founded in 1978 making them one of NZ’s oldest wine producers. These days they’re owned by the Foley wine group which includes the likes of Mt.Difficulty, Vavasour, Te Kairanga and Martinborough Vineyards. Foley have decided to discontinue the Goldwater label and have offered a one-off clearance rate to move the final stocks.
According to the back label they reckon your first impressions might remind you of “gooseberries, passionfruit and limes…but dig a little deeper and you’ll uncover the cool mountain winds and fist-sized stones that distinguish our region.”
We tried a second glass (and a third) but still couldn’t taste mountain winds or stones of any size. But we did get that classic profile you get from the Wairau Valley – a richer style Sauvignon with leap-out-of-the-glass tropical fruit flavours with real texture and weight. A class act for the money.
