Greatness takes time. Around four years ought to do it. Grandeza, which means ‘greatness’ in Spanish, is a Tempranillo (85%) and Syrah (15%) blend made from old vine fruit (10-30 years old) and bottle aged for four years at the winery before release.
From the central plains of Spain, this part of the world has hot, dry summers and cold winters which helps to create ripe grapes full of flavour. Now with several years unders its belt this little beauty has developed into a nicely aged, highly drinkable, mellow and smooth Spanish red full of vanilla and sweet spice flavours.
Scoring 91/100 with Master of Wine Bob Campbell (who also selected it in his Top 10 Reds for April 2024) who said “Fragrant red wine with considerable finesse and roasted chestnut, floral/violets characters. Fine-grained red with a gently drying and lengthy finish. Appealing wine with cellaring potential.”
No need for any further cellaring here ( that’s already been done for you!) but if you do want to tuck a few bottles away Bob reckons up until around 2031. So whip open the cork and enjoy this highly affordable, bottled aged Spanish red. For a food match of greatness try barbecued, roasted or grilled red meats.
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
