We reckon when it comes to French Champagne you ought to taste with your mouth and not your eyes. And when you’ve got an NZ Master of Wine (Steve Bennett) doing the tasting and sniffing out bargains like this, you’re on to a winner.
Never heard of Henri Dubois? Neither had we! It’s a label produced by G.H. Martel & Co. Never heard of those guys? Same! Here’s a little known fact though – these guys are the largest family producer in Champagne. Fourth generation winemakers, the Rapenau family own 8 individual Champagne Houses and together they are the 6th largest Champagne producer internationally!
It certainly caught the eye (nose and palate) of Master of Wine Bob Campbell, who scored this an impressive 95/100 and called it “An attractive Champagne offering good value at this price.”
Paul Tudor picked his Top 50 Best Wines for Winter 2017 in Metro magazine and Henri Dubois made the cut, calling it “fresh, lively grower Champagne is new to the New Zealand market and is affordable enough for a spur-of-the-moment bottle at the end of a busy week…Excellent value.”
Wine Orbit’s Sam Kim was also raving about this one not long after it landed on NZ shores, scoring it 5 Stars, 94/100. Sam said “Opulent and gratifying, this is a fabulous rendition of richer style Champagne.”
This is a great option if you’re after the real deal French Champagne on a budget – top quality without the big price tag.
