Grenache aged in Scotch whiskey barrels?! What started off as a crazy wine experiment back in 2012 has now become a regular in the Jacob’s Creek line up – Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel. And as the name suggests, there’s more than one barrel that helps to add more richness, texture and complex flavours.
What started with selected parcels of Grenache (also called Garnacha in places like Spain) from Barossa vineyards was first aged in traditional American oak barrels before being finished in aged Scotch whisky barrels!
Scoring 88/100 and selected as a Top Value Award winner with The Real Review’s Stuart Knox. He said “Deep and dense ruby in the glass. Nose has mulberry and smoky-meat tones. Sweet blue fruits on entry, then a firm coarsely-grained tannins fills in.”
This is classic Grenache in a glass – juicy, medium bodied, fruit forward style with juicy raspberry and sweet berry fruit flavours.
