Young twenty-somethings Tom and Sam Barry are The Barry Brothers and they’re the third generation in this legendary winemaking family to stamp their name on a bottle of Jim Barry wine after their Dad (Peter) and Grandad (Jim) who started the company back in the 1950s.

After travelling and studying Tom and Sam returned to the family business, where Dad told them to get busy making their own label. It was old poppa Jim that was the inspiration behind the 50s themed branding for the label, although they both admit the wine is aimed at the modern style Aussie red using a classic blend of Shiraz and Cabernet – medium to full bodied, vibrant, juicy style with red and dark fruit flavours.

This latest 2019 release is 53% Clare Valley Shiraz, 47% Clare Valley Cabernet, aged 12 months in French oak.

Scoring an impressive 90/100 Master of Wine Bob Campbell, who said “Silken-textured red with plum, raspberry, chocolate/mocha and a dusting of subtle oak influence. Shiraz dominates the palate with typical fruit sweetness although a thread of cabernet adds extra interest. Good value at this price ($26)”

Ironically we didn’t choose something trendy like a Sangiovese or a Tempranillo – we decided to take a modern approach to a classic Australian blend – Shiraz-Cabernet.” said Tom. Sam chipped in saying “We wanted to create a wine that is approachable for people who don’t want to sniff and swish, but who just want to share a good drop with family and friends.
