Johnny Q “Q Series” Shiraz

The “Q Series” is a label Johnny made for the US market – but for whatever reason a shipment ended up in the NZ market. We don’t know why, but we’re bloody glad it did!

If you love your full bodied, lush, rich and flavoured packed Aussie reds at a crash hot price you’ll know all about Johnny Q. He’s John Quarisa (the winemaker) and he’s been around the traps making wine for some of the biggest names in the Aussie wine world before he kicked off his own cool little wine label.

So they then decided to throw it into a couple of NZ wine shows. And hey presto, it came up trumps. A Gold medal winner at the NZ International Wine Show and 4 Stars & Best Buy in Cuisine magazine’s 2021 Shiraz tasting AND 90 Points in Wine Enthusiast USA – for a little over $15 this is a hands down bargain buy!

The Cuisine judges said “A charming drink-now number, the instantly identifiable label promises consistency from selecting fruit across South Australia. The deep-pitched blackberry fruit contrasts with a hint of eucalyptus and nicely lifted oak flavours.”

The Wine Enthusiast panel said “The wine wallops the nose with an aroma of fresh, deeply ripe fruit, while oak-driven notes of toast, mocha and vanilla extract follow.”

His motto is “you just can’t take life too seriously” – but you’d seriously have to be a mug to miss out on trying this one. Consistently over delivering for the money, dollar for dollar this “Q Series” Shiraz takes some beating. To be honest we reckon some of his competitors must wonder how he does it at such a keen price!

Full bodied, juicy and rich and loaded to the gunnels with flavour and screaming out for a big, juicy steak!
