The Drouhin’s are Philippe, Véronique, Laurent and Frédéric (they couldn’t sound more French if they tried right?). They’re the fourth generation Drouhins now running this famous old winery in Burgundy, France. Their great granddad Joseph was the young man who started it all back in the 1880s.
The Laforêt (pronounced “la-fo-ray”) label was started by Robert Drouhin (the kids’ dad) in the 1970s. He wanted to make a Burgundy that would open the world’s eyes to Burgundy (perhaps he meant not so bloody expensive!). Being a nature lover he marched up the slopes and chose grapes close to the forest (Laforêt) to make his new label.
This is a great entry into the world of French Chardonnay, using hand picked fruit from the Burgundy region. It’s full of crisp, citrusy fruit flavours in an approachable, easy to drink style that’s not over the top with oak. Quite frankly, it looks a little bit posh too so plonk a bottle on the table and tell everyone you spent twice as much.
The Drouhin’s reckon you ought to be sipping their Chardonnay in “a trendy restaurant” (snobby or what!) – we say pair it up with a grilled chicken or seafood dishes.
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
