La Multa Garnacha

La Multa is the work of Master of Wine Norrel Robertson – aka “El Escocés Volante” aka The Flying Scotsman! Born in Scotland but plying his trade in Spain. He studied Post-Grad Viticulture in New Zealand and he’s the only Master of Wine based in Spain,  the world’s 3rd largest wine producer.

You might catch him flying around the Calatayud wine region – the cops certainly do from time to time! La Multa is a speeding ticket and it’s fair to say Norrel’s clocked up a few over the years. In fact he reckons he’s spent so much money on La Multas he thought it’d be fun to make a wine to try and recoup some of it!

NZ Master of Wine Bob Campbell puts out his Top 10 Red and Top 10 White lists every month and La Multa Garnacha made it into his Top 10 Reds for June 2023! Bob called it a“Smooth-textured Spanish red from low-yielding vines that are 30-50 years old. Dark cherry/berry, vanilla, tobacco, cedar and salami, with a seasoning of spice. Savoury, accessible red with an appealing rustic edge. Good value at this price ($20)”.

Imported into NZ by MW Steve Bennett who said “This central Spanish gem from Norrel Robertson MW is soft, fruity, and spicy – like Pinot Noir and Syrah had a love baby.”

Put the pedal to the metal with this full bodied, full flavoured, full throttle Spanish red. It won’t disappoint.
