If you haven’t visited the eastern end of Waiheke Island, you’re missing out big time. Nestled in among sandy beaches, coves and picture perfect Aotearoa coastline you’ll find the Man O’ War vineyard. Man O’ War Death Valley Malbec
In 1769 Captain Cook saw the coastline’s potential for timber for the Royal Navy (thus the wine’s name). In 1993 the family behind this range of wines planted their first vines.
Named Death Valley Malbec, you’re in trouble after the first sip. That’s because one glass will simply not be enough of this awesome Waiheke red! With a “Banksy” style graffiti label, it’s named Death Valley as the vineyard the fruit comes from is, in their words, is “breathtakingly steep”.
This is 100% Malbec that’s spent 19 months in oak, now with a few years bottle age under its belt this richly flavoured red is bang on form. We’re not the only ones digging Death Valley, check out the rave reviews…
5 Stars (Michael Cooper MW) – “A classy young red, it should be long-lived, but is already hard to resist.”
5 Stars, 93/100 (Sam Kim) – “Intensely flavoured and velvety, and finishes superbly long and tasty.”
4 Stars, 92/100 (Bob Campbell) – “An attractive wine that’s accessible and very drinkable”
4 Stars (Raymond Chan) – ” A rich, robust and vigorous Malbec”
Enjoy until Death do you part (drink now to 2022).
