If you haven’t visited the eastern end of Waiheke Island, you’re missing out big time. Nestled in among sandy beaches, coves and picture perfect Aotearoa coastline you’ll find the Man O’ War vineyard. Man O’ War Pinot Gris
In 1769 Captain Cook saw the coastline’s potential for timber for the Royal Navy (thus the wine’s name). In 1993 the family behind this range of wines planted their first vines.
Their white label Pinot Gris is one of their top sellers for one good reason – it’s effin’ delicious! A medium style, slightly sweeter style Pinot Gris that’s balanced by fresh, crisp acidity. This is their 2023 release and in the words of the MOW crew – “cut pear, citrus and floral spice with a fresh palate accentuated with natural sweetness and vibrant acidity.”
Using fruit both both their Waiheke vineyards and also Ponui Island, just off the eastern coastline of Waiheke. Here’s a tip – if you’re on the island make the trek over to the eastern side and visit the Man O’ War crew. Grab yourself a glass and enjoy the million dollar view from the lawn or beach – it doesn’t get much better!
