Marques De Nombrevilla is part of the Bodegas San Alejandro co-operative in the heart of Aragon, northern Spain. With over 150 growers across 1200 plots and 950 hectares of vineyards, these guys are all about making sure everyone, from the grower to the wine drinker, gets a fair deal.
The grape is Garnacha (also called Grenache in some parts) and while it’s best known these days as a red from the Rhone Valley it actually originates from Spain. Using fruit from high altitude vineyards some 1,100 metres above sea level, the extreme climate of baking hot days and very cool evenings produces a long, ripening period which means grapes full of concentrated flavours and intensity.
Scoring 5 Stars and 93/100 with local critic Sam Kim, Sam said “Beautifully ripe and fragrant with dark cherry, smoked game, warm spice and toasted nut aromas, it’s silky-smooth in the mouth delivering juicy fruit flavours together with savoury nuances. Elegantly framed by velvety tannins, making it fabulously drinkable. At its best: now to 2024.”
It’s silky-smooth alright! Trust us, you’ll be reaching for a second glass in no time at all! A seriously good value option for the winter ahead – drink it with or without food but we’d highly recommend this with pretty much any kind of meat dish – beef, lamb or pork, grilled or barbecued!
