SK and Dan are livin’ the dream. Formerly winemakers in the Hunter Valley, they jumped across the ditch and built a new winery, a new home, started Maude Wines…oh and throw starting a new family in the mix too! All at the base of Mount Maude with the stunning backdrop of Lake Wanaka.
The reason for the move? A little something they call the holy grail of winemaking…Pinot perfection. Pinot Noir that is. But while they’re at it they’re having a good crack at Pinot perfection of another variety – Gris!
“It will take a lifetime to truly understand the variety and how it performs under different conditions but SK and I will have a lot of fun learning.”
You’ll have a lot of fun too if Pinot Gris is your digs. Using fruit from their Wanaka vineyard plus a few surrounding Otago vineyards (Tarras, Gibbston and Lowburn) they’ve barrel fermented a portion of the blend to add weight and texture. Peaches, pears, apple and spice, this is simply delish!
In fact SK and Dan tried to sum up their wine on the back of the label in a very minimalist style with six simple words. Quince / Pear / Biscuit / Full / Dry / Voluminous.
