Planted in 1969 Moss Wood are one of the first in the world famous Margaret River part of the wine world – and the second oldest in he area. Dr Bill Pannell was an obstetrician by trade but he turned his hand to delivering babies of another kind – beautiful little grapes (especially Cabernet!) when he and wife Linda planted those very first vines in ’69.
Bill had a passion for the French varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and he and Linda pruned and harvested, sometimes by moonlight, before producing 250 cases of their very first Cabernet in 1973.
This 2013 vintage represented 40 years of Moss Wood Cabernet and boy what a vintage it is! Truly a Cabernet lover’s dream or one for the collector…
97/100 (James Halliday)
“Hand-picked, destemmed to open fermenters with cultured yeast, 7 days fermentation and 7 days post-ferment maceration, matured for 28 months in French barriques (30% new). A powerful, full-bodied cabernet that still manages to achieve finesse thanks to the perfect balance of fruit, oak and tannins. An autocratic portrait of cabernet, and of photographic reality. Drink to 2043”
97/100 (Bob Campbell MW)
“Dense, rich and ripe cabernet sauvignon with classic blackberry, blackcurrant, cedar, tobacco and spicy oak flavours. Seamless red with a very lengthy finish. Although accessible now this wine clearly has great cellaring potential. Drink to 2033.”
Keep it in your cellar for 20-30 years from vintage.
