Philippe Baron de Rothschild ain’t just one of the most famous names in the history of wine. Nope, he was also a Grand Prix driver, a screenwriter, a playwright, a theatrical producer, a film producer and poet.
Producer of one of Bordeaux’s finest reds (still known to fetch ridiculous sums at wine auction houses around the world) after legendary 1928 and 1929 vintages Philippe simply didn’t think the 1930 vintage was up to scratch – so he put it under a new label now known as Mouton Cadet, literally meaning the baby sheep!
Mouton Cadet was born and has since introduced millions of wine guzzlers to the world of reds from the Bordeaux region in France. Philippe didn’t do second best, so he’d be stoked to know it’s regularly ranked as one of the top selling Bordeaux red wines across the globe!
A soft, easy drinking, fruit driven red blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. If you’re looking for a food match look no further than the label – a nice cut of Mouton (lamb!).
