The mathematically perfect spiral of the Nautilus shell has been admired since ancient Greek times…and in more recent times by wine lovers in NZ and around the world!
First launched in 1985 as a premium, family owned NZ winery. These days Nautilus are part of a bigger (and very prestigious) family – The Family of Twelve.
Twelve of NZ’s most iconic, successful wineries that share information, ideas and even the odd secret or two. The top brass of NZ wineries sit round this table – Villa Maria, Kumeu River, Millton, Craggy Range, Ata Rangi, Palliser Estate, Neudorf, Lawsons, Fromm, Pegasus Bay, Felton Road and Nautilus.
Some 38 years on from their debut release this is their Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from a great 2024 vintage. A classy example from a top Marlborough producer!
Scoring 4 Stars with Michael Cooper in his column for the NZ Listener, he said “This is typically a fragrant, sweet-fruited wine with crisp, concentrated flavours. Handled almost entirely without oak (2 per cent of the blend was barrel-fermented), the bright, light yellow/green 2024 vintage was matured on its yeast lees for three months before bottling. Weighty and fleshy, it has fresh, ripe, tropical fruit flavours, a sliver of sweetness (4.5 grams/litre of residual sugar), and crisp acidity. Balanced for easy drinking, it’s a generous wine, already quite open and expressive.”
