Neudorf Home Block Moutere Chardonnay is still to this day the only wine that Master of Wine Bob Campbell has ever scored a perfect 100/100. That was for the 2014 vintage but make no mistake there is a mad scramble by wine lovers around the globe to lay their mits on what can only be described as one of New Zealand’s finest examples of Chardonnay. This is a wine that could take on the very best from around the world!
Organically certified BioGro. Moutere clay gravels. Single vineyard. Low cropping. Hand harvested. Wild ferment. Natural spring malo. Barrel fermented. Unfined. Vegan. Lightweight glass bottle.
That’s how winemaker Todd Stevens likes to sum up this 39th vintage of Neudorf, which he also adds has a certain “Neudorfness” about it.
Scoring 98/100 & Top Rank from Master of Wine Bob Campbell, Bob said “The 2014 vintage of this wine was the only white wine to earn 100-points from me. You would be forgiven for mistaking this wine for a Puligny-Montrachet in a blind tasting. It is one of a handful of New Zealand chardonnays that will soon be discovered by the international fine wine market.
Neudorf’s flagship chardonnay and a very favourable vintage raised my expectations to dangerous heights. I wasn’t disappointed. A powerful, complex and perfectly balanced wine with layers of citrus, floral, spice and savoury, mineral flavours supported by peppery phenolics and fruity acidity. Accessible now but with the potential to become even more complex with bottle age.”
As usual global demand for this wine doesn’t even come close to what is available – so if you’re reading this and the out of stock notice isn’t up yet, what on earth are you waiting for?!
This has the potential to cellar for up to a decade if you’ve got the patience to wait that long!
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
