“If you’re looking for one of the best values in all of Spain, the Olivares Tinto is a good candidate.”
When Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate throws that line out there about a wine then boy oh boy, you’ve got to sit up and listen!
From Bodegas Olivares in Jumilla in southeast Spain. This is an area of long hot summer days, long cold winter nights and long periods of drought. Most grapes wouldn’t last but the Monastrell grape thrives in these conditions!
The Olivares Tinto is a bit of a take on the famous “GSM” blend (Grenache, Syrah and Monastrell or Mourvedre as they call it in France) but it’s more “MGS” with 75% of the blend being Monastrell, 15% juicy, ripe Grenache and 10% elegant, fruit forward and peppery Syrah.
Aged just 3 months in oak this is loaded with dark fruit flavours and sweet spice – this is some seriously good bang for your buck!
Damn, you're looking young for your age!
