“Paritua is a Hawke’s Bay winery that has steadily grown in stature over the past decade and certainly has a place on my watch list of rising stars” – Bob Campbell MW

Get your hands on a bottle of this Hawke’s Bay red while you can! From a slick Hawke’s Bay producer, a stellar 2020 Hawke’s Bay vintage, this is a Hawke’s Bay Bordeaux blend that will blow you away coming just under the $25 radar.

It scored 95/100 with Master of Wine Bob Campbell as well as a Top Value Award and a Top Rank Award. Bob doesn’t throw 95 point scores around without a wine hitting the high notes – in the past decade only 5 other NZ reds under $25 have received a 95+ point score with Bob!

In his write up Bob said “Intense, almost chewy red with cassis, dark berry, dark chocolate, dried herbs, cedar, vanilla and nutty oak. A blend of merlot, cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. Good cellaring potential. Drink to 2030.”

Paritua are clearly a Hawke’s Bay producer of serious class with no expense spared in the set up with world class, state of the art winemaking facilities and an architecturally designed barrel room and cellar door. Inspired by the great wines of Burgundy and Bordeaux – chief winemaker Jason traces that back to him tucking into a 1961 Chateau Haut Brion Magnum! There was no turning back after that!

Some 70% of the 120 acres of free draining, red metal soils of the Paritua vineyards are dedicated to the classic Bordeaux varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec.

To keep their high standards the Paritua range of wines are only made in top vintages. The Stone Paddock by Paritua range is made every vintage and gets the same TLC and attention in the vineyard and winery as those top tier, more expensive wines do. In fact, you’d have to question whether someone got the barrels mixed up with the supposedly cheaper wine getting a 95 point score!

This is the Stone Paddock Scarlet – their Bordeaux red with Merlot (56%), Cabernet Sauvignon (40%) and Cabernet Franc (4%) making up the blend. And in their own words – “This blended red is a prime example of the style produced from the gravel soils of the Paritua vineyard.”
