One of the world’s great wine producers, one of Australia’s hot spots for world class Riesling. Penfolds Bin 51 Riesling was first created in the 1990s as Penfolds began to expand their white wine development programme – they were already nailing the classic Shiraz and Cabernet varieties so it was time to focus in on the likes of world class, cellar worthy Chardonnay and Riesling.
The first vintage was released in 1999 and labelled as Eden Valley Reserve Bin Riesling.
This is the latest 2024 release of Penfolds Bin 51 Riesling and it’s your classic zesty, citrusy style with mouth watering, juicy acidity…
93/100 (James Halliday’s Wine Companion)
“The 2024 Bin 51 presents as a wonderfully focused, perfumed release with floral tones of Christmas lily and orange blossom flitting around the vibrant lime and grapefruit core. Hints of finger lime, lemongrass, crushed quartz and makrut lime. A light slick of phenolic texture on the edges creates textural complexity, and there’s ample minerally drive as the wine finishes taut, long and stony dry.”
91/100 (Huon Hooke, The Real Review)
“Light/pale yellow; very lifted yeasty and floral/herbal fragrance, lemon pith and rind, the palate also quite limy/lemony and herbal, with again that yeastiness of a very young riesling. Soft, pulpy but properly dry finish. I’d like to re-evaluate this in a year or two”
Our tip? Buy a six pack and enjoy a bottle or two in its youth but let this one evolve in the cellar up until 2036 – you’ll be rewarded for it!
