Almost 25 years ago the guys at Prophet’s Rock set the goal to become a world class producer of Central Otago wine. Ok, so that goal became more like something of an obsession and along the way they found a prophet of their own in winemaker Paul Pujol.
Originally from Aotearoa Paul had a love for French Pinot Noir and aromatic style whites. So, after getting some experience under his belt at Seresin Estate, he headed off to France and found himself working at the famous Maison Kuentz-Bas in Alsace. Paul was the first person outside of the family to be made head winemaker since they started in 1795!
There’s no corners cut when it comes to making their much loved Prophet’s Rock Pinot Gris. Exceptional fruit from top vineyards in Central Otago’s Bendigo sub region, hand picked and 100% gently whole-bunch pressed, long and slow barrel ferments and aging on yeast lees prior for extra weight and texture.
As top global critic James Suckling says – “An off-dry style with powerful acidity packing in sweet ripe pears and apples. Fresh aromas and gentle pastry notes, too. This has it all.”
This is no everyday Pinot Gris and one that’s crafted with the long term in mind if you’ve got the patience. Try 10+ years from vintage.
